Vampire - The Masquerade

Since the dawn of the culture of man, mere-mortals eagerly longed for immortality in form of eternal life. Their restricted vistas prevented them from realizing what immortality actually means: not eternal pleasure and happiness, but eternal pain lasting for aeons and even beyond. While the successers of Abel lead their lives in satisfaction for a couple of decades and eventually die after a propserous life, many of the Children of Caine would often prefer to get rid of their miserable existence.

Vampires are immortal beings, but maintain their state of undead life at the expense of mortal beings, above all, humans. Although they possess great strength and all kinds of mysterious powers, they are doomed creatures, which they only know too well. Thus, most vampires won't be able to rest very long or enjoy their peaceful undead lives, but have to struggle their fates night by night.

Vampires epitomize the World of Darkness by lurking in the shadows of the night in large cities where the availability of their prey is best. They are always in conflict with themselves and their environment and very often these are the kinds of conflicts which you can not talk yourself out of.
