What it is
Since determining your basic ability score by rolling dice tends to lead to unequal preconditions for the further development of the players' characters, many game masters prefer to employ the Standard Point Buy system described in the D20 Dungeon Master's Guide instead. This online utility is supposed to help players creating their characters and calculating their respective amount of points.
How to use it
  1. First of all, enter the amount of points to be used for creating your character and click Start over. Your DM will most likely assign an equal amount of points for all players. After clicking the button the assigned amount of points is copied to the "Remaining" field to indicate that is calculator is ready for further input.
  2. Cycle back and forth between the entries of the abilities below the Score column. Most web browsers support this by interpreting the TAB-key (with or without the combination of SHIFT).

Entering and changing the score automatically updates the respective ability's costs, the total amount of points being spent so far as well as the amount of points remaining. It also calculates and displays the ability modifiers.

Don't try to change the entries of the Modifier- or Costs columns. They are read-only fields and updated along with the entered ability score.

  3. You may click Start over at any time to restart the creation process.
